Angels Baseball Foundation Snapshot

While it's way too early in this project to draw any conclusions about the correlation between how teams are run and how they perform, this is one example of them matching up, and not in a good way.

The last time the Angels won a playoff series was 2009. This is despite having two of the greatest baseball players on earth during that time. Seriously, how do you do that?

Unfortunately, the picture doesn't get a whole lot better when we take a look at the Angels Baseball Foundation, which holds a 38.6 IMPACT+ score, placing it 25th among all ranked teams.

Here's what I don't get. They have been able to grow their assets substantially since 2019, growing from just under $8M to over $16M. Yet, the expenses - grants and scholarships - have barely budged. What's the point of hoarding these assets if you aren't going to deploy them? And unlike some of the other organizations I have looked at, they didn't increase their giving during the pandemic to address emergency issues (grants did go up but only slightly, and this was followed by a decrease in 2021, so it's hard to give them much credit for the increase).

This just makes me think of how frustrating it will be look at the teams with lower IMPACT+ scores.
